"I think that in order to struggle you have to be creative. In my life, creativity has been something that has sustained me; it awoke my spiritual struggle." - Assata Shakur : : : "On Struggling" is a collective zine project by people of color with the intent of sharing personal narratives of struggle with culture, identity, white supremacy, mental health in our communities, modes of self-care and more.

Some of the Brown & Proud Press folks workin’ dat table at the American Library Association’s annual conference in Chicago!
We were approached by Matthew Moyer, a librarian from Florida, who was working with a group of public and academic librarians in putting together a “Zine Pavilion” within the conference. Their goal was getting librarians connected with zine culture by creating space for them to browse zines, talk to zine librarians & authors and possibly bringing them back to their own libraries. Genius! With libraries being so endangered,  underused & underfunded, we gotta show some print solidarity with one another! It was slightly difficult getting adjusted to the demographics of the crowd (adults/seniors, white, not familiar with the concept of a zine, etc.) but we had a really great time, made some solid connections, and sold over 40 zines.
